Aztec Farming
Aztec farming has become most famous because of the brilliant chinampas system that Aztec farmers used.
certainly there were a number of techniques used in the Aztec empire. But with the great city of Tenochtitlan built on swampy but rich ground, the chinampas became key to the food production of the people. Chinampas weren't the only type of farming that was used. There werecrops on the mainland, as well as gardens, both small personal gardens and large experimental gardens. |
Olmec Farming
The Olmecs were farmers and fishermen who also did a small amount of hunting. The major crops were maize, beans, and squash.
where the Olmecs lived they reiceved alot of rain so when the floodwaters subside they left a layer of alluivial soil on theland near the the rivers , this made the land very fertile, theolmecs soon realized that the flat lands were very fertile , in time farming began to thrive in the region, as a result food supply increased and became more reliable , then the olmec popultaion grew
